Every week I post a dozen or so quotes from recently published books I’m reading on Threads and Bluesky (something I did on Twitter for 15 years before departing soon after it transitioned to X – see Goodbye Twitter, X, or Whatever You’ve Become). With only around 2,500 and 1,500 followers respectively, my reach is modest.
The closest I have come to going viral on these newer platforms was
- Threads: An Ash Wednesday photo following worship that received more than 650 likes and nearly 50 reposts (see My One of a Kind Ash Wednesday Experience)
- Bluesky: A provocative quote from John Fugelsang’s book Separation of Church and Hate: A Sane Person’s Guide to Taking Back the Bible from Fundamentalists, Fascists, and Flock-Fleecing Frauds (see Entering the New Year with the Bluest Sky)
Jesus is Queer
A few days ago I posted a thread that has gained more traction than most:

The quote comes from Kali Cawthon-Frees’ A Queer Gospel: Jesus’s Life Through Rainbow Eyes, which was published two months ago. A Queer Gospel is an important book that I will formally recommend in October as one of that month’s great new books.
