I miss Twitter (see Goodbye Twitter, X, or Whatever You’ve Become) and am still finding my way on alternative platforms.
In March, I made a post on Threads that gained far more traction than any I had made or have made since (see My One of a Kind Ash Wednesday Experience).
Yesterday, I published a post on Bluesky that performed better than anything else I’ve ever shared on the platform.

My post is a quote from John Fugelsang’s new book – Separation of Church and Hate: A Sane Person’s Guide to Taking Back the Bible from Fundamentalists, Fascists, and Flock-Fleecing Frauds – which I rated 4.5 in November 2025 (see Great New Books for November 2025). The post reads
America leads the world in Christians who believe Jesus wants us to help the poor by cutting programs that actually help the poor. –John Fugelsang
So What?
The quote appears on page 177 and serves as Fugelsang’s opening line for Chapter 9: “Thou Shall Not Hate on Poor People.”
As someone who has invested a great deal of my life serving the economically poor, I appreciate Fugelsang’s directness. Jesus had much to say about how those who follow in the Way of Jesus should care for the poor and marginalized. And, Fugelsang summarizes his understanding just a few sentences later, “This book bluntly commands generosity, justice, compassion, and fairness toward the poor and marginalized.
So, perhaps my post went more viral than most for good reason. And, maybe, it will encourage others to live out their faith more boldly.
