Don’t Over Communicate (#0754)

2012/06/08 By Greg

Maurilio Amorim is CEO of The A Group, a media, technology and branding firm in Brentwood, TN that consults with some of the country’s largest ministries, leading churches, and Christian publishers. Recently he blogged about the importance of not over communicating.  While it is easier than ever for ministries today to communicate with constituents, it is also more essential than ever to communicate effectively.  To avoid over communication Amorim suggests

  • Segment your database and don’t send every message to everyone
  • Use fewer words than you did back the print marketing era
  • Limit the frequency of your communication

So What?

Over communicating is one of the fastest ways to become ensure your communications are viewed as irrelevant.  It is increasingly essential to deliver your message in timely, targeted, and brief formats leveraging the desired channels of your end users.

  • How do you determine what church messages are communicated? Once a message is deemed “worth communicating” what filters are applied to determine (a) to whom, (b) when, and (c) using what channel(s)?
  • How do you determine how much is too much when it comes to communicating your congregation’s many messages?
