A Progressive Seminary First (#1228)

2013/11/07 By Greg

CTSRecently I wrote about the changes made by the Association of Theological Schools that allows seminaries to offer accredited Master of Divinity degrees comprised of coursework that can be completed 100% online.  Chicago Theological Seminary is now marketing that they are “the only progressive seminary to offer an accredited MDiv completely online.”

So What?

For the future of seminary education to change as a result of going online, such an education must be available for would be students across the theological spectrum.  While Chicago Theological Seminary has started such an offering before other progressive seminaries, I expect that many others will follow over the next few years.

  • How might the availability of accredited fully online seminary degrees change the makeup of future seminary student bodies?
  • Do you think such a shift will result in more students in theological higher education who are there to learn more about their faith, but who do not plan to leave their current field of professional endeavor after completing their education? Why or why not?
