From One Church to Many Churches (#2259)

2025/09/21 By Greg

On August 31 I concluded a 14 month role as the Interim Senior Pastor of Advent Lutheran Church (ELCA) in Arlington, Texas (see Keep Living and Loving Like Jesus). In the three weeks since, I’ve enjoyed three very different worship experiences in nearby congregations affiliated with three denominations.

Week 1: Cathedral of Hope

On September 7, I worshipped at the 10:00am service at my home church: Cathedral of Hope United Church of Christ in Dallas.

Week 2: Nor’kirk Presbyterian

On September 14, I worshipped with Nor’Kirk Presbyterian Church (PCUSA) in Carrollton while serving as their guest preacher for their 10:00am service (see A New Presbyterian Experience).

Week 3: Shepherd of Life Lutheran

Today, I worshipped at the 10:00am service at Shepherd of Life Lutheran Church (ELCA) in Arlington. (This congregation is the ELCA church closest to my home.)

So What?

The opportunity to worship in many Mainline Protestant congregations in the weeks following the conclusion of my interim service has been a blessing. And, I’ve reconnected with three of the denominations that have shaped me and that continue to inform my theology.

Importantly, I also have continued with my primary ministry. Since 2021, I have served as the full-time CEO of White Rock Center of Hope (Hope).

As I look ahead I am delighted by diverse worship opportunities. If you’d like to explore what it might look like for me to visit your congregation to share the story of Hope, to serve as a guest preacher or teacher, or simply to join you as your special guest, please reach out.
