Do You Follow Jesus This Closely? (#2247)

2025/07/30 By Greg

Last week I found myself second in line at a stoplight behind a blue Prius with a bumper sticker that reads. ” Do you follow Jesus this closely?”

Of course, I snapped a picture and quickly shared it on social media. I posted it on numerous platforms with a version of the following remark: Today’s question comes in the form of a bumper sticker: Do you follow Jesus this closely?

So What?

I wonder how you would answer. Feel free to reply to share your thoughts.

Personally, I don’t follow Jesus as closely as I found myself to the Prius at a stoplight. I find that this type of Jesus pursuit quickly becomes myopic, legalistic, and self-serving.

Instead, I wholeheartedly commit anew each day to following the Way of Jesus trusting that living such love transforms me, emboldens me, and empowers me to do my part to build a better world for all people. I pray that I am faithful in this work and mindful that it is how God’s kindom becomes more real on earth as it already is in heaven.
