Goodbye Twitter, X, or Whatever You’ve Become (#2169)

2024/11/15 By Greg

Yesterday I deleted my account on the platform formerly known as Twitter and now renamed X. After investing thousands of hours on the platform over the last 15 years, it became clear that it was time to part ways.

Memories

I’ve reflected on my experience at several points along the 15 year journey, including:

  • Struggling to Celebrate A Twitterversary (September 2024)
  • 14 Years of Tweeting (September 2023)
  • Tweets Worth Thinking About (May 2022)
  • 10 Most Liked Tweets in Last 10 Years (October 2021)
  • Thinking Theologically: Exploring 5 Tweets (May 2021)
  • Tweeting: My First Decade (September 2019)
  • Twitter: My First 6 Years  (September 2015)
  • Winning a Re-Tweet Award  (October 2012)
  • Two Years of Tweeting (September 2011)
  • Celebrating my Twitterversary (September 2010)

So What?

Social media has changed a great deal over the last fifteen years. Importantly, the platform formerly known as Twitter has changed dramatically only over the last two years since Elon Musk completed his acquisition of the company. Much has been written about Musk’s changes and I imagine far more will be penned in the months and years to come.

After winding down my engagement on Twitter since the Musk era began, recent changes make it clear I can no longer take part.

I just joined Bluesky and am also on Threads.
