So What Faith Turns 15 (#2129)

2024/06/14 By Greg

So What Faith launched 15 years ago this week.

In June 2009, while I was serving First Presbyterian Church in Naples, Florida I decided to become a blogger. I knew I wanted to share messages about matters of faith that matter with an audience wider than my congregation and believed that blogging was the right tool for that moment in time.

Except that I kept going and going and going and . . . now 15 years later well after the heyday of blogging, I continue to faithfully create new content.

Looking Back

As each year comes to a close, I find myself taking time to reflect on what has been and to dream about what could be. In more recent years, I’ve shared parts of that process with you through a post, including:

  • Celebrating 14 Years of So What Faith with Popular Posts
  • Celebrating So What Faith: 13 Years & 2,000+ Posts
  • Celebrating 12 Years of So What Faith,
  • Celebrating 11 Years of So What Faith
  • A Decade of So What Faith
  • Celebrating 9 Years of So What Faith

I also reflected more broadly on my experiences across the decades with posts:

  • Blogging in the 2000s
  • Blogging in the 2010s
  • Blogging in the 2020s
So What Faith (2011) – available from web.archive.org/web/20111111035348/https://sowhatfaith.com/

While each of these posts offers a slightly different perspective, many recount the number of posts made and the popularity of posts during that year or all time based on page views.

Last Year

This past year I’ve moved away monitoring popularity and focused on writing about my experiences. And, I continued to post a monthly list of recommended reads featuring the best new books I’d read in the last 30 days.

For the first time in one of these annual reflections, I offer a list of the posts that were most meaningful to me as an author

  • Personal Experiences: My Ordination (and Installation), Visiting 75 Churches in the Dallas – Fort Worth Metro Area, and Giving Thanks – 10 Experiences in 2023
  • Great Books: So What Faith’s Top Authors: 2009-2024 and 14th Annual Top 10 Books of the Year
  • Trends: My Religion is Dying: A Deep Dive into Mainline Decline, UCC: 1 Out of Every ____ Americans, and Worshippers Are Aging Too Fast

Looking Ahead

As I continue to live the year of faith (see Faith: My Star Word for 2024) I expect to be challenged, to try new things, and to live faithfully by the Way of Jesus. I hope to share elements of this journey with you.

Therefore, I’m committing to continuing to blog on a regular basis without defining what regularity is or means for this season in life (I’m aware that over the past year I authored 65 posts and have been in the 50-65 range for the last few years).

It is my sincere hope and ongoing prayer that this blog encourages you to think, invites you to engage in meaningful conversations, and nudges you to boldly live out your faith.
