Yesterday I preached for the third time this year. It was also the first of three consecutive Sundays that I’ll preach at West Fork Presbyterian Church (PCUSA) in Grand Prairie, Texas. And, this string of back-to-back-to-back Sundays in the pulpit will mark the first time I’ve preached three or more weeks in a row since 2018.
(For more on how I’ve shifted from preaching on a weekly basis to sporadically, check out Preaching in the 2000s.)
So What?
While I’ve preached three (or more – and often far more) times in a row many times in my life this will be the first time I’ve done so at a congregation this close to my home. West Fork Presbyterian is about a 5 minute drive or a 40 minute walk from my residence.
And, this is the second oldest congregation I’ve ever preached in (founded in 1870). In 2016, at the invitation of a former colleague, I preached at Westchester Congregational Church, which was founded in 1728.
Note: I’m looking forward to preaching at First United Lutheran Church in Dallas on May 19. And, I’m now accepting preaching invitations for the summer and fall.
