So Many Churches! Getting Started in 2024 (#2104)

2024/01/21 By Greg

We are now three weeks in to 2024 with today serving as the third Sunday of the year.

  • Jan. 7 I served as the guest pastor at Central Lutheran Church (ELCA) in Dallas, TX (see Preaching God is Still Speaking)
  • Jan. 14 I visited Mayflower Congregational (UCC) in Oklahoma City, OK (see My Visit to Mayflower Congregational UCC)
  • Jan. 21 I served as the guest pastor at West Fork Presbyterian (PCUSA) in Grand Prairie, TX (only to learn I did likewise exactly 6 years ago today)

And, I’ve been blessed to have encounters with several other congregations including two that served at White Rock Center of Hope yesterday

  • Zion Lutheran Church (LCMS) in Dallas, TX
  • First Community Church (UCC) in Dallas, TX

Additionally, I hosted and facilitated a small group (aka life group) in my home as part of the ministry of Cathedral of Hope (UCC) in Dallas, TX.

How Many Churches?

Just counting the churches mentioned above, I’ve had meaningful experiences with 6 congregations affiliated with 4 denominations in 2 states.

So What?

I’ve long been an advocate for increased cooperation among all who follow the Way of Jesus.

We are currently in the middle of the Week of Prayer for Christian Unity.

Recognizing that we are stronger because of our diversity, I invite you to share one thing you appreciate about a church, denomination, or religious group other than your own.
