The practice of choosing a star word was something I first heard of perhaps a decade ago and first participated in last year.
For 2023, my star word was clarity. And, it turned out that 2023 became a year of new clarity.
This year, I paused at the star filled table to consider some of the many words that might be waiting for me before selecting one. My star word to guide me in 2024 is faith.
Faith
Faith has always been central to my identity. A few thoughts immediately came to mind about my current faith experiences:
- My home church, Cathedral of Hope United Church of Christ, just proclaimed 2024 the year of FAITHful living (emphasis mine).
- The non-profit I lead, White Rock Center of Hope, recently adopted new guiding statements. The organization’s first value is faith.
- This blog, which I’ve been publishing my thoughts about matters of faith that matter on since 2009, is called So What Faith.
- I kicked off 2024 by preaching (to all gathered – including and perhaps especially myself) a message reminding everyone that God is Still Speaking. The year ahead will provide opportunities for big, bold, and beautiful acts of faith.
So What?
Much like I was unsure what clarity would mean for me at this time last year, I’m not entirely sure what faith will bring forth this year. I do, however, trust that my life will be increasingly led by this star word.
If you received a star word this year, I’d love to hear what you picked and your initial reflections.
