A year before the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, I wrote “Visiting 50+ Churches in Dallas-Fort Worth,” highlighting congregations I had worshipped with since relocating to Texas from Florida. When the pandemic started, I stopped attending worship in person.
After experiencing a full year of life without attending corporate worship, I gradually reentered that world.
- March 7 – I attended my first outdoor worship service
- March 14 – I attended my first indoor worship service
Now, seven months later, I realize that I have only worshipped in 10 congregations in 2021. (I’m certain the number will be much higher in 2022!)
The sacred spaces are shown in alphabetical order with names and links under each image.
So What?
During the pandemic, I’ve been intentional to only enter sacred spaces that were taking seriously the need to follow current health and safety best practices. As a result, I’ve primarily worshipped in spaces I was familiar with before the pandemic and in congregations that provided easy to access data about their current COVID-19 protocols.
Worship in the time of the pandemic has been life-giving for me. Returning to in person worship has been particularly meaningful, and one that continues to be (and likely always will be) supplemented by moving online worship experiences.
I’d like to hear about your in person pandemic worship experiences.
- When did you first return to in person worship (or have you)?
- If you have returned, how many different sacred spaces have you worshipped in during the pandemic?
- How has your view of in person worship changed as a result of COVID-19?
