Back in January, I shared my experience of getting the COVID-19 vaccine. In that post I wrote, “During the COVID-19 pandemic, one clear way to love one’s neighbor is to receive the COVID-19 vaccine.”
Today, I’d like to add mask wearing as another important way to show love for one’s neighbor.
My Experience
For many months the last two things I did before leaving home were to put on shoes and select a mask for the outing. When the CDC issued new guidance in May stating that masks and social distancing were no longer required for fully vaccinated people, I began to wear my mask less and less often.
As the Delta variant began spreading in the Dallas – Fort Worth area, I started wearing my mask again more and more often. Then, just days before the CDC recommended places like DFW return to the norm of all people regardless of vaccination status wearing masks, the non-profit I serve reinstituted a mask requirement. Finally the CDC’s newest guidance was released.
Two years ago I had no idea what it would be like to wear a mask regularly. I now know it is a very easy thing to do.
So What?
I’m fully vaccinated, and plan to be fully masked when around others for the foreseeable future.
Wearing a mask is simple, and it makes the world a safer place for all people.
Will you commit to wearing a mask as a sign of your love for your neighbor?
