I’ve been tweeting as @SoWhatFaith since 2009. In 2021, the majority of my tweets have been quotes from new books. Interestingly, according to Twitter’s built in analytics, my top tweets this year consist of four such tweets alongside one I wrote in response to a very difficult day.
I invite you to read these five tweets, and select one to explore in greater depth. Carry the words of that tweet with you for a few days, then share your reflections.
- Brian McLaren. “Eventually, I came to realize that doubt was a companion, every bit as resilient and persistent as faith, and she wasn’t going away.” (Quote from Faith After Doubt: Why Your Beliefs Stopped Working and What to Do About It, which was the first book to receive a 5 star rating at So What Faith in 2021.)
- Greg Smith. “Reading and affirming the words of pastors and other faith leaders who are condemning today’s acts of domestic terrorism while also recognizing the silence of others. In times like this, silence is not acceptable.” (Remark I tweeted on the occasion of the attack on the U.S. Capital.)
- Tim Shriver. “Change never comes in calm times. Change comes in times of crisis, when we see the way we’re living isn’t working.” (Quote from The Call to Unite: Voices of Hope and Awakening, which appeared on So What Faith’s recommended reading list for May 2021.)
- Diana Butler Bass. “We humans have a habit of domesticating God.” (Quote from Freeing Jesus: Rediscovering Jesus as Friend, Teacher, Savior, Lord, Way and Presence, which was the first book to receive a 5+ star rating from So What Faith in 2021.)
- Brian McLaren. “For some of us, faith is a fortress we will defend to the death. For others, faith is a prison to leave behind forever.” (Another quote from Faith After Doubt.)
