The decade of the 2010s will end in just a few days. To celebrate my lived experiences this decade, I created a list of my Top 20 Experiences of the 2010s.
Rather than present a single lengthy list of twenty items, I’ve grouped the top twenty into four categories. The first two are primarily professional in nature (employment and education) while the final two (homes and happenings) are primarily personal.
Employment (9)
In addition to working as a consultant, I worked for nine different employers during the 2010s:
- 5 congregations affiliated with 2 denominations (UCC & PCUSA)
- 1 ecumenical mission center
- 1 university
- 1 Fortune 500 company
- 1 professional medical association
Education (2)
While the 1990s and 2000s were the primary decades I worked on my formal education, I also engaged in two significant educational experiences in the 2010s:
- Earned an MBA
- Completed a fellowship in social enterprise
Homes (4)
During the 2010s we called 4 different houses our home. Fun facts about these residences include:
- Location: 2 states (Florida and Texas)
- Views: 2 with water views, 1 with a golf course view, and 1 with a city view
- Stories: 1 with 4 stories, 1 with 2 stories, 1 with 1 story and one that falls into both the 1 and 2 story category (a coach home – the building was two stories but our living space was all on the second floor)
Happenings (5)
A lot happened this decade that doesn’t fit neatly into any category. These happenings include:
- Welcomed Heather into our family
- Moved back to Texas (the state I’ve called home all of my life except for 8 years when I lived in Florida)
- Started my 3rd decade of marriage to Susan (aka the love of my life)
- Entered my 5th decade of life
- Blogged all decade long (over 1,800 posts)
So What?
Every decade I live, I find that I have a new favorite decade. This was true again for the 2010s.
I invite you to join me in reflecting on your experience of the past decade. What would you include on your 2010s highlight reel?
