Lent is a season of preparation. It is a time when many who follow the Way of Jesus choose to give extra attention to discipleship. For some this means giving something up and for others it involves taking on something new.
Demo Day
Yesterday I heard unfamiliar sounds in my neighborhood. When I looked out a window I saw a large work crew unloading machines from trailers.
Within minutes it became clear that these individuals had been hired to demolish a house.
Over the next eight hours the group worked methodically as a team knocking down an 80+ year old home, depositing the various building materials into trucks that carried them away for disposal, and finally removing trees and leveling the ground.
So What?
As we continue on the Lenten journey I invite you to set aside some time to think about your life as a follower of the Way of Jesus. More specifically, I encourage you to evaluate what needs to be demolished, to be left behind for good, or even to die. As you engage in this work, remember that death precedes resurrection.
