Since relocating to the Dallas – Fort Worth metropolitan area in September 2015, I’ve worshipped in 52 different congregations.
Denomination
The vast majority (87%) of my visits have been to congregations in Mainline denominations. A complete list of denominational affiliations follows:
- Assemblies of God – 1
- Baptist – 2
- Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) – 8
- Episcopal – 4
- Evangelical Lutheran Church in America – 3
- Non-denominational – 1
- Presbyterian Church (USA) – 9
- United Church of Christ – 5
- United Methodist – 16
- Unitarian Universalist – 3
So What?
When I share the number of churches I’ve visited in recent years the first question I’m usually asked is “why?” My answer is always the same: “I searched for a church on relocating to the North end of the D/FW metro area in late 2015 and engaged in another search after moving to Fort Worth in 2018. And, I’ve visited several churches as a church mystery shopper to provide feedback on the visitor or guest experience.”
I’ve also learned a lot from these visits that would have helped me during my years in parish ministry. With that in mind, I invite your questions and welcome your stories.
