Visiting 50+ Churches in Dallas – Fort Worth (#1779)

2019/02/18 By Greg

Since relocating to the Dallas – Fort Worth metropolitan area in September 2015, I’ve worshipped in 52 different congregations.

Denomination

The vast majority (87%) of my visits have been to congregations in Mainline denominations. A complete list of denominational affiliations follows:

  • Assemblies of God – 1
  • Baptist – 2
  • Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) – 8
  • Episcopal – 4
  • Evangelical Lutheran Church in America – 3
  • Non-denominational – 1
  • Presbyterian Church (USA) – 9
  • United Church of Christ – 5
  • United Methodist – 16
  • Unitarian Universalist – 3

So What?

When I share the number of churches I’ve visited in recent years the first question I’m usually asked is “why?” My answer is always the same: “I searched for a church on relocating to the North end of the D/FW metro area in late 2015 and engaged in another search after moving to Fort Worth in 2018. And, I’ve visited several churches as a church mystery shopper to provide feedback on the visitor or guest experience.”

I’ve also learned a lot from these visits that would have helped me during my years in parish ministry. With that in mind, I invite your questions and welcome your stories.

Note

If you would like to read about my search for church the original journey concludes with Our Search for a Church is Over,  which includes links to 17 additional posts written during the 70-week search process.

My current search – v2.0 – is ongoing. A list of posts to date follows:
