May has arrived. One of my routines as one month draws to a close and another begins is to ensure I have completed all of my tasks for month that is ending and to review my planned activities for the upcoming month. As I look at the month of May, I realize it is a time when I will experience several significant changes, including:
- teaching a course (perhaps two courses) I have never taught before,
- welcoming (and working for) the first ever dean of online learning at Hodges University,
- serving as a general contractor (rehabbing a condo) for the first time,
- leaving my long-term companion Blackberry and beginning to rely on a Samsung Galaxy S4 (more about this switch), and
- transitioning to a different internet browsing experience when using a laptop or desktop as Rockmelt comes to an end (in that form).
So What?
Change is one of few things we all know to expect. Some months feature more change we know about (or even help bring about) in advance; other months most of the change in our lives is the sort that cannot be known until it happens.
- Are you expecting a May marked more by changes you already know or by those you cannot predict?
- As a person of faith, how does your religious (and/or spiritual) perspective color how you prepare for both types of change?
- What is the best change management advice you have ever received?
