I just completed my first three years on Twitter. As I have done at the end of prior years (year two / year one), I took some time to review my experience and to ponder future possibilities.
According to Tweet Grader, I earned an A (93 out of 100).
Tweet Grader also provided me data about trends in the number of people I am following as well as the number who are following me. As the chart below illustrates, over the last two years both groups have grown considerably.
Reflecting my most recent activity, Twitter Counter shows the number of tweets and number of followers for the last three months:
My activity has varied considerably:
- Year one: 1,000 tweets
- Year two: 2,500 tweets
- Year three: 1,500 tweets
So What?
I originally joined Twitter a few months after I started blogging as another way to share my thoughts. I had served in full-time parish ministry for a decade, and understood these new ventures as a way to reach both that audience and a much larger community. Over the last few years much has changed in my own life, and in my use of Twitter.
Currently, I work full-time for a university while serving a congregation in a part-time role. Twitter has become a way for me to be in conversation with colleagues in ministry and a diverse group of others who follow the way of Jesus. At this stage in my Twitter experience, I value the community it provides more than anything else. Twitter has become a go to resource for exploring simple and significant topics, seeking counsel and consolation, and for chatting about current events.
