Thanks largely to the work of the Gideons International, travelers normally find a copy of the Bible in their hotel rooms. The Hotel Indigo Newcastle, one of InterContinental Hotel Group’s boutique-style Hotel Indigo locations, recently announced a new approach: Kindle. More specifically, “all 148 rooms at the Hotel Indigo will contain a Kindle e-reader pre-loaded with a copy of the Bible . . . Guests are also permitted to download a copy of any other religious text – to the value of £5 or less – during their stay.”
So What?
Hotel Indigo is claiming to be the “first in Britain” to provide the Bible on Kindle. If this new service is well received, they may expand it to the chain’s other 44 locations.
- Do you think travelers will still find a Bible in most hotel rooms in 10 years? 20? why/why not?
- If hotels move from print to electronic format for religious texts, should they provide more than just a Bible? why/why not?
- With so many ways to access the Bible of one’s choosing online via websites and apps, will providing any type of Bible add value to the guest experience in the future? Explain.
