People’s social media usage habits while working are changing. According to the latest research by Palo Alto Networks, during the last six months (November 2011 to May 2012) the percentage of time workers spent on social networking sites shifted:
- Facebook: down 17% (from 54% to 37%)
- Twitter: up 10% (from 11% to 21%)
- Tumblr: up 9% (from 1% to 10%)
So What?
In only six months, the percentage of time people spent using Twitter at work doubled and the percentage of time they spent using Tumblr increased ten fold. Given the rapid rate of these changes it is logical to assume that significant shifts in the use of social networking will occur throughout 2012 and into 2013.
- How has your own social networking behavior changed of late while at work/during your working hours?
- How responsive is your congregation to these shifts? What mechanisms are in place to ensure that the appropriate channels are being used to communicate with those already affiliated as well as those not yet involved with the life of your congregation?
