According to Akamai’s latest research, American cities don’t fare well when it comes to internet speed. More specifically, no US city is among the top fifty best connected cities (based on average connection speed during the fourth quarter of 2011). The only countries represented in this top tier are
- Japan (41 cities)
- South Korea (6 cities)
- Sweden (2 cities)
- Hong Kong (1 city)
So What?
Speed matters. While most web surfers don’t need blazing fast speeds, few have chosen to linger in dial-up land. Considering America’s reliance upon the Internet and obsession with speed it is surprising that the highest ranking American city is #51 (Boston Metro Area, MA).
- How fast is your internet speed at home? work?
- How fast is “fast enough” for you at this stage in your online experience?
- What is the minimum connection speed expectation built into your congregation’s website design? What content within the site will those with slower connections be unable to experience satisfactorily?
