Tim Sanders is a former Yahoo! executive and author of four books, including the New York Times bestsellers Love is the Killer App (2003) and The Likeability Factor (2006). Recently he blogged about the health risks associated with sitting. According to an infographic created by MedicalBillingandCoding.org, people who have sitting jobs have twice the rate of cardiovascular disease as those with standing jobs. Since January is traditionally the month of resolutions and reform, Sanders suggests that those with sitting jobs consider getting off their posterior more often by
- Standing up while doing computer work
- Taking walking breaks
- Doing work while walking or at least standing
So What?
Sanders aims his reform at the workplace. How might churches reform the way they engage in mission and ministry, especially if most of their participants spend the majority of their non-church time sitting? And, in the event more standing does not work well for some or most of your existing ministries what new opportunities are worth exploring that would be done primarily while standing?
