I talk about many issues on my blog, but politics is not typically a part of that diverse mix. Today, I feel it necessary to share a little about an issue that has become quite political. A few weeks ago SOPA or PIPA were acronyms known by a select few; today a majority of Americans will learn more about them. Two bills — SOPA in the House (Stop Online Piracy Act) and PIPA in the Senate (Protect IP Act) — seek to stop the illegal copying and sharing of movies and music on the Internet. To do so, however, they would place Internet companies in a new role policing worldwide web.

I encourage you to do your own research (try this helpful 4 min video that has been viewed roughly 2 million times as a starting point) then decide if you agree that this type of reform is not in your best interest nor in the best interest of our country. If you reach that conclusion, please join me in signing this petition.
Note: If you try to do research between 8am and 8pm today you may find the Internet is “missing.” To protest many sites (including Wikipedia) are going dark for those hours. Even Google will place a link on its homepage to help raise awareness.
