Guy Chmieleski has served in campus ministry at four institutions of higher education associated with three different denominations (Baptist, United Methodist and Church of Christ). On his blog, he shared his own experiences as a blogger, a bit about a presentation on why blogging is important that he made recently to the United Methodist Campus Ministry Association, and four reasons why he will be integrating a blog into his campus ministry work and thinks other ministries should consider doing so too:
- It’s a way to have a pastoral e-presence . . .
- It’s a way for people to get to know us, and our ministry, from a distance (which is often preferred by the unknown) . . .
- It’s a way to continue conversations that were started in other settings . . .
- It can serve as an entry way into other ministry activities . . .
So What?
I started this blog while serving in full-time parish ministry and experienced each of the four benefits Chmieleski lists. At this stage in the development of Web 2.0, I could not imagine serving in full-time ministry and not blogging.
- Do all of your congregation’s pastors blog?
- How have you benefited from the ministry blogs of others?
