I spent a great deal of time in my youth on soccer fields. While no two games were the same, we always paused at the midpoint for half-time. During the half-time break the coach helped us evaluate our performance during the first half and offered recommendations for what we needed to do in the second half. Unfortunately there is no national half-time holiday each year to remind us to stop and assess our performance and consider what changes we need to make in the second half of the year to achieve our annual goals. Since no such day exists, I propose taking a few minutes today as we finish the sixth month of 2011.
So What?
I encourage you to take some time today or over the next few days to reflect on your life so far this year and to ponder your process toward any goals you have identified for 2011. Celebrate your successes, make mid-year adjustments, and prepare to begin the second half of the year.
- What are some of your greatest accomplishments so far this year?
- What goals have you ignored or failed to make significant progress toward achieving? Do any of these need to be revised or deleted?
- Do you set aside time throughout the year to slow down and assess your progress? If not, how might you benefit from doing so?
