What Makes A Good Follower and Why Does it Matter? (#0259)

2011/01/31 By Greg

Brad Lomenick describes himself as “a passionate follower of Christ, and have the privilege of directing a movement of young leaders called Catalyst.”  To learn more about Lomenick, read his blog, friend him on Facebook, or follow him on Twitter.

Recently he shared a list of attributes of good followers:

  1. Good followers are great finishers
  2. Good followers anticipate
  3. Good followers criticize in private, and praise in public
  4. Good followers are trustworthy
  5. Good followers are vision copycats
  6. Good followers make their leader better
  7. Good followers lead themselves

So What?

Jesus: Whoever wants to become great among you will be your servant (Mark 10:43b, GW).

  • For those who are followers of Christ, what does it look liketo live out each good follower characteristic?  What grade would you give yourself for each?
  • For those who aspire to lead, how well are you doing now as a follower (based on Lomenick’s list)?    What steps can you take to focus on your growing edges?
  • For those who lead and aspire to true greatness, how do you succinctly define servant leadership? Based on that definition, how well are you doing as a servant leader?
