Baptists have influenced my faith. I attended George W. Truett Theological Seminary at Baylor University and earned my Master of Divinity degree from Logsdon Seminary at Hardin-Simmons University.
Both universities opted to enhance theological offerings in response to conflict within the Baptist world. Truett opened in 1994 and Logsdon expanded in 1995 to include a seminary program. Both Baptist General Convention of Texas affiliated seminaries now offer Doctor of Ministry degrees.
It is estimated that there are over thirty million Baptists in the United States.
The greatest contribution Baptists have made to my faith is an emphasis on the priesthood of all believers. All believers have direct access to God.
- How does the priesthood of all believers impact the way you view the Christian community known as your local congregation? your role in that community?
- How is the priesthood of all believers helpful in preventing clergy/laity dichotomy? How do you affirm the role of called and ordained clergy without embracing a perspective that creates two classes of Christians?
- Is the priesthood of all believers an essential component of your congregational DNA? If not, how might an intentional emphasis prove helpful and healthy?
